MEET THE LIBERTINES IN MINIATURE

Earlier this year, we had the honour of working with The Libertines to create a very special set of 3D-printed figurines. Scanned backstage, printed in full colour, and now taking to the stage in miniature on Hornby’s Dreamland layout.

It all started in Bath, where we joined the band before their headline gig at The Bath Forum. Tucked away just beyond the main hall, we set up our 3D scanning rig and captured each band member in full detail — guitars, poses, attitude and all. It was a surreal moment seeing Pete, Carl, Gary and John step in front of the scanner and watch their reactions as we showed them the instant scan previews.

In July this year, we headed to Margate, the band’s hometown, for the big reveal. Hornby and Dreamland had teamed up to create a miniature layout of Margate Station and the iconic Dreamland amusement park, complete with a model of the Dreamland stage. At the centre of it: The Libertines, frozen mid-performance in miniature.

As part of the Join the Crowd project, the public was also invited to be scanned and added to the model gig crowd. At both the initial pop-up event and again on 5 July, the day of the band’s real Dreamland show, we returned to Margate Station with our scanner and invited fans to step into the layout themselves.

We were also lucky enough to present the full set of figurines to the band in person, right there on the platform at Margate Station. The big band meeting their small-scale selves.

From backstage scans to a miniature stage, it’s been an unforgettable project to be part of!
